10.) Beach House – Devotion

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Radiohead – In Rainbows (techincally the cd release date was Jan.1, altought it was released digitally Oct. 10th of last year)

Nine Inch Nails – Ghosts I-IV (not so much for the music, but in terms of how it was released.  Much improved over the “In Rainbows” model before it and set the stage for Sigur Ros to do the same thing with their album)

Sigur Ros – Gobbledigook (yes, just the song.  not the album)

Bon Iver – For Emma, For Ever: I just picked this album up a few weeks ago, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since.  If I had gotten it a lot sooner, I’m sure it would’ve made the top 10.

I liked Fleet Foxes’ album, too. Bon Iver sounds interesting, too. It’s cool that you, Gabe, and Deb all put lists up! I feel musically illiterate whenever any of you guys start talking.

P.S. Is it just me, or is J-Bi long overdue for his next “Quote of the Week?”

You are my sunshine was pretty good but most of the songs sounded the same to me. I must be the only person on earth that doesn’t like My Morning Jacket. Mogwai has a cool cover, can’t go wrong with a giant eagle-face.

I didn’t care too much for the Copeland cd at first, but just like their last release “Eat. Sleep. Repeat.”, this one grew on me. I believe it has some of their best songs, like “Chin Up” and “Not Allowed” to mention a few. My Morning Jacket was good right off the bat. I love “Highly Suspicious”. I love it when bands with established sounds write songs in a totally different style and vein of music. With “Evil Urges” they really pushed the envelope, and pushed their sound to new limits. I really think these guys are going to have a great artistic career.

Fleet Foxes I haven’t been able to take out of the CD player since my friend Annalie turned me on to them in February, and it has gotten better every single time I’ve listened to it. The sound seems to come from a different planet. A planet filled with other lonesome planets that have finally found solace in each other. So warm and inviting, but innocent and pure at the same time. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

and yes, you are right. How can you go wrong with a giant eagle face? To be honest, I haven’t even listened to the record ha ha, I just love the cover ;) Listen to “The Sun Smells Too Loud” from the cd. The band members are a bunch of crap-talking ingrates, but they make some of the most beautiful music.

And I’m not too big of a Switchfoot fan either. Jonny Foreman should just dump the band and go solo. I’m also stoked to hear his work with the dude from Nickel Creek, “Fiction Family”. I guess they were originally called “The Real Sean Jon” (because his name is Jon, and the other guy is named Sean and they wanted to get sued by Puff Daddy ha ha) but they had to change the name.

If I were to change my list now, I would probably put Bon Iver at four and take Beck off. That cd is incredible.

You should make us a list John… Top 10 books you’ve read or Top 10 places you’ve visited on your trip, or Top 10 countries with the cutest girls ha ha complete with photos of course.

I generally don’t like Top 10 lists. Well, I don’t like writing them, anyway. They’re one of my top 10 least favorite things to do, but I’m happy to comment on the ones you guys write.
